The part of the commission was to photograph the interior spaces of Whitmore School on behalf of The Vale of Glamorgan County Council
The brief required:
A range of images illustrating the internal spaces and design of the building
The essence of the design in terms of structure and detailing.
The overall impression and scale of the building when placed in its context.
A dynamic approach to the photography in terms of composition and technique.
My response to the brief:
I used stromg perspective lines to reflect the dynamic nature of the design.
I also used a long exposure technique on a number of the external shots. This is effective in picking out the building lines from potentially complex sky detail.
There was also a strong focus on design detailing and the structure of the building when viewed from inside.
The main banner image at the top of the page was taken in low spring light adding a golden colour to the building.
Panoramic shots were used on a number of the exterior profiles to emphasise the scale and context of the building.
